Nichole Mann
President
Nichole Mann has served in IAAN leadership since 2013, first as Communication Chair and then transitioning to the role of President. Currently the Director of Nursing Student Services at Indiana University East in Richmond, she also serves as the Project Management Consultant for the Indiana NEEDS Initiative, and is a coach-trainer for the Indiana University Coaching Conversations program. Before coming to IU, Nichole served for four years as an academic advisor at Ivy Tech Community College-Richmond. In addition to state and national presentations, blog posts, and facilitating the first ever IAAN web event, her article, “Application of Clinical Judgement Models to the Development of Academic Advisors,” was published in the Journal of NACADA-The Global Community for Academic Advising in December 2018. As active IAAN President, Nichole looks forward to continuing to support the growth of IAAN's professional development activities and helping Indiana advisors connect.

Sharon Wight
Vice President
Sharon Wight has been at Purdue Fort Wayne (formerly IPFW) since she was 18 years old. She received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Communication from IPFW, and knew from a young age that she wanted to be an educator. Her career began as a limited term lecturer in the Communication department, where she began overseeing classes that required advising knowledge in 2014. She began a full-time advising role in 2017, for the Purdue Fort Wayne Psychology department. In November 2019, she shifted to her current role in the Purdue Fort Wayne Education department. She has been a member of NACADA since 2015, and in 2018 won a Wesley R. Habley Scholarship to attend the Summer Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico. You can read about her experience here. She is excited to be on the IAAN board, and hopes to use this opportunity to begin making connections at the state and national levels in hopes to move up in IAAN and NACADA leadership. She lives with her husband, 3 cats Carbon, Hiro and Echo and golden retriever Wrangler in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Cara Wetzel
Treasurer (out-going)
Cara currently works at Purdue University as Assistant Director, Exploratory Studies and has previous advising experience in the organization leadership, mathematics and statistics, and exploratory studies programs at Purdue. She holds an associate’s degree in Computer Technology and both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Mathematics, all from Purdue University. Cara has two adorable children, Zoe and Charlie – and three if you count her husband. She says she came to Purdue as a student and never left and she likes puns – the dumber the better.

Ashleigh Crowe
Treasurer (in-coming)
Dr. Ashleigh Crowe currently serves as the Academic Advising Executive Director in the University College at Indiana State University (ISU). Dr. Crowe's previous roles at ISU include serving as an academic advisor, the associate director for probation and mentoring, the associate director for student outreach and success, and the advising administration director. Before coming to Indiana State University, she worked in residential life at the University of Northern Iowa. She has been active in NACADA since 2011, serving on various regional committees and presenting multiple times at both regional and national NACADA conferences. Dr. Crowe's research interests include case management advising models, serving students on academic probation, using instructional design techniques to build advisor training programs, and applying learning theories to the field of advising. Dr. Crowe received her bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies from Ball State University, her master’s degree in Human Development and Leadership from Murray State University, and her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction: Post-Secondary Teaching and Learning from Indiana State University. She lives in Terre Haute with her husband Andy and their two sons, Turner and Mason.

Kimberly Tomkiewicz
Secretary
Kimberly Jana Tomkiewicz is the Academic Advisor and Capstone Coordinator for the MS in Information Technology Programs and Certificates at Valparaiso University and is an assistant English professor for Ivy Tech Community College and IvyOnline. Kimberly has over two decades of working in higher education positions, primarily as an academic advisor to nontraditional and international students and English instructor. In addition to her MA in Journalism from Ball State University and MALS in English Literature from Valparaiso University, Kimberly is a trained ally for the LGBTQ+ community and active and veteran military students, and is also a certified Mental Health First Aid responder through the National Council for Behavioral Health.
She and her husband, Ryan, have been diligently restoring their home, a 1932 Chicago Bungalow, which they share with their son, Nicholas, and two not-scary black cats - Olly, who is 17 years old and Puck, an eleven-year old rescue cat that they adopted this past August. She and her 'guys' love to shop for books and vinyl records in their free time and have made trips, as far away as Nashville, TN, to go to Jack White's record store in search of music, but they typically keep their scouting trips to Chicago and Indianapolis.

Susan Hawkins-Wilding

Susan L. Hawkins-Wilding is Assistant Vice President for Academic Advising at Ivy Tech Community College. Ivy Tech is the largest comprehensive Community College in the country with 140,000 students and 18 campuses. She provides college-wide leadership and oversight of academic, career, and transfer advising. Additionally she chairs the statewide Student Retention and Success Council and collaborates with academic and student affairs, financial aid and Ivy Tech Workforce Alignment. Her areas of interest within Higher Education include academic and career advising integration, service learning, assessment, and non-verbal communication.

Michael "Brody" Broshears

Since October 2014, Michael “Brody” Broshears has served as the Assistant Vice President for Academic Success at the University of Southern Indiana (USI). In this role, he oversees University Division and the four advising centers within the undergraduate colleges. Prior to this most recent appointment Brody had served as the Director of University Division at USI since October, 2007. Before joining USI, Brody created and then directed, the newly formed Academic Advising Center for undecided students at Northern Illinois University from 2004-2007. He also spent six years as an academic advisor at the University of Northern Iowa. Brody is an active member of the National Academic Advising Association and is finishing a three-year term on the NACADA Board of Directors this fall. Prior to that, Brody completed a two-year term on the NACADA Council as Regional Division Representative (2014-2016). He has also served a two-year term as Region Chair (2011-2013) for Region Five. Brody has presented at numerous regional and annual conferences on topics including advising administration, happiness/meaning making and the advising profession, advising systems, the needs of undecided students, and peer advising programs. Brody has spent his entire professional career helping students make the most of their college experience. Honesty, openness to diversity, and collaboration are important in all that he does. He views his primary role in this profession as that of an educator with an ethical responsibility to improve the lives of those around him. Brody received a bachelor’s degree in political science at Indiana University and a master’s degree in college student personnel services from Miami University. He lives in Evansville, Indiana, with his wife Catherine, two daughters, Payton and Macy, three dogs, Brooke, Johnny, and Talley and three cats, Tolbert, Ezra and Leo. Jacquelyn Thomas-Miller

Dr. Jacquelyn Thomas-Miller is the Director of Advising and Retention in the College of Education at Purdue University. Prior to joining the Purdue Community as the Managing Director of the Family Impact Institute, she served as a public high school and elementary school administrator for 11 years, following a 20-year teaching career as a special educator. She is currently a Co- Chair for the 2021 NACADA Regional Conference and stays engaged in the Purdue University community is a Horizons Mentor, guest lecturer, limited online instructor, former Chair and member of the Black Caucus of Faculty and Staff, IDI Administrator, QPR Suicide Prevention Trainer, and Faculty Fellow. Dr. Jackie also spearheads the First Generation College Student initiative in the Purdue University College of Education.

Carlos Zapata jr.

Carlos has been working at Indiana University for over 10 years. Carlos started his career in higher education at the Regional Campus of Indiana University, Kokomo. In February 2014, he took his current position in Academic and Career Development at IUPUI. Carlos loves helping students navigate their educational journey while finding what they are passionate about in life. Carlos holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Education, both from Indiana University, Bloomington. He loves reading, watching movies, traveling, and spending time with his friends. Carlos is married to his amazing partner, Anika, has two wonderful kids, Emma, and Eli, and a dog named Luna.

Brandon Boyd

Brandon Boyd currently serves as a Senior Academic Advisor at Indiana University’s O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs. He began working at the O’Neill School in January 2017. Prior to this, he worked at Ivy Tech Community College – Bloomington, where he served as an Academic Advisor to both international and domestic students. Brandon completed his undergraduate degree in Communication with a minor in Sociology at Bowling Green State University. He completed his graduate degree in International and Comparative Politics at Wright State University. Brandon has been involved in a variety of community activities in Bloomington and is a proud 2016 graduate of the Leadership Bloomington Monroe County program. His first involvement with IAAN was in May 2019, when he presented at the Drive-In Conference at Ball State University. He is very excited to join IAAN and serve as a Member-At-Large.

Anna Bednarski
Communication Chairperson
Anna Bednarski is an Associate Director of Academic and Career Planning at Indiana University Bloomington. She has been an academic advisor since 2003, and she has now happily added teaching and career development to that role. Anna enjoys working with exploratory tech students to help them make choices about their academic and career future. She has been involved with NACADA, IAAN, and her local campus academic advising association (BAAC) throughout her career, including as a presenter at conferences and as a board member in both IAAN and BAAC. In her role as Communications Chair, Anna hopes to spread the word about all the great initiatives that IAAN has to offer, as well as help advisors across the state make connections with each other. In her spare time, Anna enjoys spending time with her husband, tackling home organization and design projects, and of course, posting on social media!

Josh Morrison
Conference Chairperson
Josh Morrison serves as Director of Advising at the University of Indianapolis Center for Advising & Student Achievement. He has been in academic advising and related fields since 2004, including nearly 10 years at IUPUI in a variety of roles. Prior to joining UIndy in 2018, Josh was Director of Academic Advising for Ivy Tech’s Lafayette and Kokomo regions. At IUPUI, Josh worked with colleagues to develop an academic advising career ladder, and was recognized in 2009 as an IUPUI Athletics Favorite Professor. He has presented posters, conference sessions, and pre-conference workshops at many NACADA annual conferences, and in 2015 co-chaired the NACADA Region V Conference in Indianapolis with Theresa Hitchcock. Josh is engaged on campus at UIndy, providing evening academic advising workshop sessions in the residence halls, and is a graduate non-degree student in history at the university.

René Henry
Professional Development Chairperson
René Henry currently serves as Assistant Director of Undergraduate Student Services and Senior Academic Advisor in the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University Bloomington. Prior to joining the O’Neill undergraduate advising team in April 2016, she held positions in the IUB Student Advocates Office, serving as their Senior Assistant Director and the University’s first Confidential Victim Advocate. René worked in community mental health and held various part-time student affairs positions while completing her graduate degrees in counseling at IU. She received her undergraduate degree in music education from Ball State and taught elementary music before coming to Bloomington in 2007. René plays clarinet with the Southern Indiana Wind Ensemble and regularly volunteers with community and professional organizations. When not working, she enjoys spending time outside, being silly, and all things Lego.

Mathew Bumbalough
Membership & Elections Chairperson
Mathew has been advising for over 3 years, but found his passion for advising after working with students on probation as an instructor for IU’s Phoenix Program during graduate school in 2013. After becoming a new advisor in 2016, he quickly became chair of the Probation, Dismissal, and Reinstatement Advising Community of NACADA where he worked with the steering committee to update resources, publish papers, and present at the annual conference about probation issues. He is also the current editor-in-chief and founder of the Journal of Academic Advising that focuses on humanistic theory and approaches to advising. He is a proud Hoosier and loves the Bloomington community.
